Welcome to Cognition Works
About Us
Cognition Works is a company that successfully addresses disruptive, risky, and uncooperative behaviors directly affecting the lives of individuals and the quality and effectiveness of the workplace. Behaviors such as road rage, ignoring deadlines, bullying, harrassment, gossip, and lying are on one end of a spectrum of these behaviors. At the other end of the spectrum are behaviors such as stealing, assault, and substance abuse.
Cognition Works provides:
consulting work individual, group, and couples counseling educational workshops small group trainings special event presentations
We work with a broad spectrum of individuals and organizations including: parents, human resource administrators, teachers, students, offenders, social service agencies, churches, and small to mid-sized businesses.
To supplement our services we offer a variety of supporting materials.
Disruptive and uncooperative behavior make our classrooms difficult to control, our workplaces a focus of problematic behavior, and our homes places of conflict. Cognition Works uses proven methods of effecting change and a highly effective approach to intervention/prevention called Language Choice Therapy. Using these tools we provide opportunities for individuals and groups to successfully address the roots of thinking and acting that often result in strained interactions at work or within the family, poor performance in school or work, relationship difficulties, substance abuse, or anger management.
Our clinical work is based on intervention techniques proven effective in past practice. The same techniques are taught in our education groups and seminars. The change process builds upon the same interruption techniques used in intervention/prevention. The program for change is based on personal responsibility, the powerful learning tool provided by the use of expectations and consequences, and the concept of choice. A key component of change is identifying ineffective thinking patterns and learning responsible replacements with appropriate behavior expectations.
Cognition Works has published many articles as well several books and specialized curricula. Young People Curricula:
